Gene and his wife, Marie, have proudly called Blue Bell home for the past 31 years. Both of his children attended Shady Grove Elementary.
Gene began his professional journey in the School District of Philadelphia, taking on various roles at several schools throughout the city. He started as a music teacher before transitioning into the role of a compassionate school counselor, where he nurtured students' academic, social, and emotional growth. He then moved into administrative positions as an assistant principal and principal, applying his diverse expertise to create a comprehensive approach to education.
Passionate about arts education and eager to engage his students in creativity, he collaborated with the Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership (PAEP) through his previous school, Creighton Elementary. His efforts aimed to support students, seniors, and special populations in both school and community settings, fostering excellence in arts education practices. In addition to his work in the schools, Gene mentored students through his church and held various leadership roles, including serving as President of Ye Olde Philadelphia Club. Founded in 1926, the club's mission is to promote positive behavior among African American men and encourage its members to be actively involved in civic activities. In 2015, he received the organization's Appreciation Award, along with former Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.
After retiring from the School District of Philadelphia, Gene provided educational leadership and guidance at Carson Valley School. Most recently, he has been helping his daughter launch a Kumon Learning Center in Chestnut Hill.
Gene was appointed to the Wissahickon School Board in December 2023. He chairs the Board's Health, Wellness, and Safety Committee and represents the Board on the District Health, Wellness, and Safety Committee. Additionally, he serves on the Curriculum/Technology, Policy, and Racial Equity Oversight Committees. Gene has also been a member of the Boards of Germantown Academy and Global Leadership Academy.
